architecture

The picture above shows an overall view of our proposed network architecture. The Banana Pi Routers are interconnected in a star topology fashion via two Ethernet switches. Wiring them like this results in two separate networks: one for management (red) and one for emulation (blue). The Management Network is used to configure all devices and create a custom overlay network for emulation, i.e. defining links and setting their speeds. Having successfully configured the Emulation Network it is thus used to run all your simulations and tests enabling the assembled routers only to see those devices you want them to see and operate at a bandwidth of your choice. The Gateway poses as the entry point connecting your your internal network to the Management Network and is therefore used to run all necessary scripts for your device configurations as well as monitoring the status of the Banana Pis.
